Routes to Bad Ischl and the Imperial Villa

By road:
Leave the A1 Autobahn (Westautobahn) at the Regau junction, and take the B145 road in the direction of Gmunden and Bad Ischl. Bypassing Gmunden, you travel through Altmünster and along Lake Traun to Ebensee at its southern end, then continue along the River Traun to Bad Ischl. The journey from the Autobahn takes approximately 50 minutes. The road is well signposted, and several tunnels bypass potential holdups. Immediately on arriving in Ischl, use the "Kaiservilla" car park, from which you can reach the adjacent Imperial Villa on foot within about 3 minutes. Alternatively, use the "Rechensteg" car park a little further on. The GPS coordinates are: +47° 42' 50.46" N, +13° 37' 24.22" E

By rail:
There are frequent trains to Attnang-Puchheim on the main Salzburg-Vienna rail line ("Westbahn"). Change at Attnang-Puchheim for Bad Ischl. There is also a daily direct connection between Vienna and Bad Ischl. From Bad Ischl station take a taxi, or walk for a few minutes down the Vogelhuberstrasse, past the Hotel Royal, to the entrance to the Imperial Park.

By air:
The nearest airport is Salzburg, from which there are connections to Salzburg Central rail station. The simplest approach from there is to take the bus direct to Bad Ischl. The journey of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes terminates at the Bad Ischl rail station, which is a few minutes' walk from the entry to the Imperial Villa.

Cyclists:
There is a cycle park opposite the ticket office at the entrance to the Imperial Park. Cycling is not permitted in the Park. You can leave panniers and other luggage at the ticket office.

Bus groups:
There is a bus station directly opposite the entrance to the Imperial Park. From there it takes about 3 minutes to walk up the drive to the Imperial Villa.

Additional information for bus drivers: This bus station is only for disembarking and embarking. The vehicle must be removed to a designated bus park in the meantime. Drivers will be fetched from there by a gratis taxi service and may take part in the tour of the Imperial Villa without charge. Thereafter, they will be brought back to their vehicles.
